Development of process analytical technology for postharvest engineering

Agricultural produces are shipped to consumers after several postharvest processes. Main purposes of the postharvest process are quality preservation and sorting, which contribute to stable food supply and food safety. For improvement of postharvest engineering, we have been conducting researches on spectroscopic analysis which facilitate on-line measurement of chemical and physical reactions during the postharvest process.

 

Spectroscopic analysis is an environmentally and human friendly procedure because it requires neither chemical nor destruction of samples, and spectroscopic analyzers have been already implemented in flour milling plant, fruit sorting center, etc. to measure chemical components in the agricultural produces. Our research aims to expand the role of spectroscopic analyzers from analysis in the process to analysis of the process.
